Why Green IT?
Green IT has been broadly defined as the environmentally responsible use of computers and related IT resources. Such practices include the implementation of energy-efficient CPUs, servers, data storage and peripherals as well as reduced resource consumption and proper disposal of e-waste, etc. Based on Gartner and IDC forecasts, long-term goals around server and infrastructure virtualisation, data centre outsourcing, thin client computing, tough supplier benchmarking and even building incentive schemes that reward IT for low energy consumption, are expected to appear soon on the top of the CIO agenda.
In Singapore, Green IT has also been identified as another important area under the overall energy efficiency initiatives by National Environment Agency (NEA), the lead government agency for the Energy Efficiency Program Office (E2PO).
Green IT Survey:
This benchmark industry survey, a collaborative effort by business, industry and government agency partners, aims to determine at the national level Singapore companies’ current level of awareness, interests, adoption and implementation plans in Green IT, and help derive critical information to roll out an effective implementation and follow-up plan for a national Green IT/Computing industry development campaign. This survey is targeted at senior management as well as CIO/CFO/IT Director/IT Managers looking after IT system strategy, process design, implementation or operations of their companies.
